The Drugstore Cream Contour
I love a good cream contour. I think that creams blend effortlessly and give you a very natural blended look. Using creams is also ideal for so many different skin types since creams tend to work better on mature skin, makes sure dry skin doesn't look cakey, and sticks better to oily skin. Contour palettes can be a little pricey though and not everyone has the means to add that extra step into their routine. For the babes on a budget who don't want to dish out too much money on high-end cream contour products I have a cheap and easy alternative for you all; cream concealer sticks! It might be pretty obvious but who really knows because sometimes I think this idea can be a little overlooked. Before I had two pennies to rub together (which still is basically the case) and before contouring had become the power play that it is today I was using L'Oreal cream concealer sticks to slim down my chin and give dimension to my face.
Cream concealer sticks are great for contouring since they typically come in a decent array of shades, are easy to blend out, and have the perfect amount of pigmentation. What is also great about them is that you have a lot of control over your product and you can get clean precise lines. I've always used the L'Oreal True Match concealer sticks because they have always worked best for me. Thier shade range is large enough where I can find shades that are a few shades lighter and a few shades darker than my complexion. The darker shade is a bit warm but not so warm that it looks too orangey on my complexion; instead it warms me up just enough that I can skip bronzer if I want or I can cool it down with a more taupe colored powder over top. The range might not work for everyone but, it should do well for a lot of you. If it doesn't work for you have no fear because there are still tons of other drugstore options. Stick Cream foundations are another great product to use for contouring and lately the drugstore brands have been coming out with some real gems (Sonia Kashuk, Maybelline, Revlon.)
This little contouring style might be old news to some of you but, I still think it's important to point it out and help out all those struggling in the contour game. Just remember everyone's face shape is different and not everyone is going to contour the exact same way. Know your face shape and tweak contouring to what suits you best. It might be a trial and error kind of game but once you get the hang of it you'll see it does wonders.
