Sephora Rouge Gel Lip Liner | Review

There is something absolutely satisfying about a super clean polished lip. It's like an art form all by itself. I always envy people with naturally even lips because making that ish symmetrical without looking crazy is something serious. Sometimes I think making my top lip symmetrical is more stressful than making my winged liner even. We all have our makeup struggles and that one is pretty high up there on my list.
I typically always use a lip liner although many of my liquid lipsticks don't really need them. I use them for insurance purposes as well as in order to ombre or give dimension to my lip looks. Typically I like my liners like I like my lipsticks, matte... obviously, I'm pretty predictable. Recently though I decided to mildly branch out and try out something a little new. Sephora recently launched their Sephora Collection Rouge Gel Lip Liners which shockingly have a satin cream finish.

The New Sephora Collection Rouge Gel Lip Liners have a non-drying gel formula that makes them a bit different than any other liner that I've used before. Frankly, at first that made me a bit skeptical because typically you want your liners to be a bit dry so they keep everything in place. The words creamy and lip liner didn't really match up well in my head but I'm down to try (almost) anything at least once so I figured I would give them a shot.

These new gel liners come in eighteen different shades ranging from nudes, to pinks, to bolds. The range is one of the best I've seen in a long time and that was actually a part of what really suckered me into trying these. I think that they have a lip liner that would match almost every nude to brown lip product that I own and that is just beautiful. I started out by only picking up three shades just as a trial run. I purchased 02 Nothin but Nude, 04 Creme De La Creme, and 17 Molasses.

The liners are creamy so they glide on smoothly and give a nice opaque clean line. Since they don't dry down if you swatch them on the back of your hand they will instantly smudge BUT on the lips they have a bit of a tack to them which helps to keep them in place and helps to prevent lipsticks bleeding. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised. The creamy consistency makes for a comfortable wear so you can use these as a lip liner or an all over lipstick without your lips feeling super dry and uncomfortable. The satin finish gives the liner a bit of a shine which you can obviously either keep or matte down with translucent powder.

The liners do transfer and wear off when you eat and drink but, I haven't had any issues with them moving around or becoming messy. By themselves or with a standard non-matte lip the liners last about 4 hours without eating or drinking and when I wear them with my liquid lipsticks they obviously stay all day.

Overall, I like them and definitely will be picking up a few more in the future. They may not be anything super special but they work well and I really like the color range and the easy versatility of being able to use them as a genuinely comfortable overall lip color. These have definitely been one product that's shown me sometimes products I'm not too sure on can really work out in my favor.
