Hello, Loves! So I was finally able to get my hands on one of Covergirl's TruMagic Skin Perfector Mattifiers and I was pretty excited to give this a try. I have pretty oily skin so anything that promises to keep me matte makes me a pretty happy camper.
The Covergirl TruMagic Skin Perfector Mattifier is an oil-free clear mattifying balm. It applies smoothly and with the same velvet finish as Benefit's The POREfessional and is along the same line as Young Blood's Anti-Shine Mattifier and the Mally Face Defender. It can be used for priming, setting makeup, and for touch-ups. Personally, I would never use this for setting or for touch ups because the balm is quite soft and it would be very easy to apply too much product or smudge around the existing makeup if you aren't careful. Also, it is going to cause a lot of makeup transfer into the product and the sponge and I just find that to be a little disgusting but if you can hang with those cons by all means go ahead. I did try this for touch-ups when I first got the product and the results weren't that wonderful. I found that using a translucent powder works better and easier.
As a primer this actually worked very well for my skin type. It kept me pretty matte throughout the day with minimal need for touch ups. This product is also great at minimizing the look of pores and giving a nice soft airbrushed look. I also tried this product by itself to control oil on days when I wasn't wearing makeup and it worked quite well. It didn't eliminate me from becoming oily at all but it did help a significant amount. It allowed me to look dewy instead of looking like I had been working in a McDonald's kitchen for 8 hours so I'll take it as a huge win.
I obviously cannot say how this would work for other skin types but, I do think that it would work well so long as you don't have any dry patches. I think that the consistency of the product could allow it to cling to those parts of the face and possibly make them more noticeable.
Hopefully this helps if you're thinking about purchasing this product. Until next time!
