New to the Scene | Fables Cosmetics Q&A

[Click HERE to go visit their facebook]

There are tons of indie cosmetics companies out there these days but, recently I was introduced to an awesome little lady who decided to put her own unique, ethical, and personal stamp on the industry with her own brand of makeup. Stacy Leigh is the creator and mastermind behind, Fables Cosmetics, a cruelty free USA based makeup brand geared towards showing everyone how easy it is to create your own fairy tale through the magic of makeup. We were able to do a little Q and A about her company and I'm really excited to share what we discussed with all of you.

Just to add a little backstory to the company Stacy Leigh is a licensed hair stylist and MUA who wanted to take her creativity to the next level by creating an in house theatrical makeup brand that could be used by professionals, performers, and everyday makeup enthusiasts alike. With her clients input on color she wants everyone to be able to create whatever beautiful looks they desire through gorgeous colors and attached easy to follow instruction booklets.

Q: What made you decide that you wanted to create your own makeup line?

SL: Creating characters is a great passion of mine, whether it is a model posing as 18th Century royalty or an actor becoming a vampire for an on screen role... Outside of costuming & hair, makeup plays an important role of getting the performer into character. I wanted to create an easier way for an artist/performer to prep for a role. Fables Cosmetics can be a ‘one-stop shop’ or a good place to start in finding the right cosmetics to create a particular ‘look’ or character.  Fables Cosmetics is for artists, performers, and make-up enthusiasts!

Q: You obviously have a connection to fairy tales but, what made you wanted to make that the focus and muse of your line?

SL: A fable is about characters- Fables Cosmetics is here to help you create characters! Though, if a makeup enthusiast loves mermaid eye shadows, they can translate our products into everyday wear!

Q: Has anything else besides fairytale creatures and your experience on shoots inspired you? Have there ever been other makeup brand owners/designers that you feel like you could really identify with and that inspired you to take a similar path?

SL: Fables tagline, "Make fantasy a reality," says so much to me & hopefully it does the same for others. It's about creativity/dreaming, and having the ability to make your dreams come true! My inspiration comes from the urge to see my ideas come to life.

One of my favorite Makeup lines is MakeUp ForEver. The creator, Dany Sanz, is a visionary. Her brand truly caters to the artist. I became inspired to fuel other artists with extra fire and passion with fun products that encourages anyone to play!

Q: Since you're mirroring your makeup after different types of fairytale characters do you think most of the color selections will be quite bold or will you also be incorporating a lot of neutrals into your palettes?

SL: I anticipate a variety of colors. One character may have bold lips, yet neutral eye shadow. It will depend upon the look of each character. There will be a good mix of bold & neutral tone color palettes. You can also mix & match! Fables is all about bringing your creativity to the table. Each of our lines is based on a character or theme, but there are endless ways to use our products!

Q: There are a lot of colorful brands out there that identify with fantacy. In your opinion what sets your brand apart from the competition?

SL: Fables Cosmetics are designed to look good on stage or camera. Are you going for a shimmery look? Fables has a product that shines in front of even the most demanding photographers’ lens! Your look is for an on stage performance? Fables cosmetics are formulated specifically to enhance the actors’ performance under the bright lights of theatre.

You know what these products are meant for before you apply them. There’s nothing more frustrating than grabbing a cosmetic that looks good in the packaging but doesn’t deliver on camera or has no effect on stage. Each line has its own purpose, and Fables Cosmetics aims to deliver!

Q: What kind of makeup products do you want to bring to your brand? Do you plan to start with just your shadows and work from there or do you plan to launch a full line right off the bat?

SL: Each line that FC launches will be inspired by a fantasy character, and will come with tips on how to re-create your own character look!
I am currently working with recipes for eye shadows, lipsticks/gloss, face makeup, and blush.

I aim to grow Fables into a larger company, and bring a bigger variety of products. The first line being launched will consist of eye shadows & lip colors. The inspired for the first line is-TBA! I am so excited for it!

Q: In your opinion why is it so important that your clients have the power to help choose the colors that go into your palettes? Considering that you are the professional why aren't you giving yourself full control in what you think would be best for your products?

SL: I think it is fun hearing the opinions of potential customers! It is important to hear the wants and needs of others. Every color/idea originates with me personally, and on occasion I love to ask others what excites them the most.

Q: Since you enjoy working with others and hearing from your potential clients do you think that you will always be trying to have your peers help choose the colors and products? Can you see yourself ever collabing with other artists to put out exclusive collections?

SL: Fables Cosmetics is based off of a particular vision - with some wiggle room. Whenever I can get people involved in the creative process, I encourage it! I wish to do the character lines justice, while serving the artist(s) needs.

I thrive on collaborating with other artists and brands! Bouncing ideas off one another and combining efforts to reach more people with our art! Teamwork is a beautiful thing.
