Recently I decided to switch up my foundation routine, branch out, and try a new line just for fun and to see what I was missing out on in the world. I tried out a few different products they were all hit or miss but then I decided to try out some Laura Mercer. I always heard tons of hype around Laura Mercier's Silk Creme foundation and since the new formula had just come out I figured I would give it a shot. I'm always a hop, skip, and a jump behind the hype but, always interested none the less.
When Laura Mercier reformulated her Silk Creme foundation she came out with the new Silk Creme Moisturizing Photo Edition Foundation and the Silk Creme Oil Free Photo Edition Foundation. The difference between the old in the new formula is that the new formula is a bit creamier, has more colors, and doesn't have any parabens. The difference between the new formulations is obviously that the oil free formula gives a more matte finish while the hydrating gives a more luminous finish. First, I tried the oil free version since it is geared towards normal to oily skin types but, I found that it was initially too matte and made me look a bit dry for the first hour or so until my natural oils kicked in and made everything look a bit more natural. Afterwards I decided to test out the hydrating line and I fell in love. Overall the Silk Creme foundation is amazing because it is a full coverage foundation that easily blurs out any imperfections giving a flawless coverage that is perfect for photos and video.
I picked up the color Bamboo Beige which works perfectly for my skintone, the added 3 colors does make it a bit easier to find your right shade. I do have to say that the line up is still a little scarce for super light skin and deeper complexions. Regardless, if you can find your shade it's an amazing foundation. Since I am using a more hydrating foundation but, have oilier skin I have found that the best application technique for me is to apply it with a beauty blender so it isn't too heavy then to bake in the Laura Mercier setting powder before buffing the rest onto my whole face. I have found that this technique not only gives me the most flawless finish but, it also keeps me matte in my t-zone longer. I can wear this foundation all day (a 9 hour work day + a few more hours until I finally take off my makeup) without it separating on me or getting patchy.
Since it is a full coverage foundation this might not be everyone's everyday cup of tea but, it is at the very least the perfect foundation for events and nights out because it gives the perfect flawless finish and photographs like a dream.
