Makeup Steps I Never Skip

Overall I feel like everyone has makeup steps that they leave out when they are rushing or aren't putting on as much makeup as usual. It's inevitable... sometimes we have those moments when we forget or just don't have the time to be bothered because we are running late and things aren't going well and the last thing we need is one more thing in our lives to make it worse. In the same vein there are some things that we would all never dream of skipping because if we did the world would crumble and our makeup would look just a little unfinished and then our day would be ruined.

This is an ode to all the steps I personally could never skip and when I do I have instant regrets. No matter how much or how little makeup I wear on a given day these steps are going to happen so that I look put together just enough so that I can survive the day.

First things first, I always prime even if the only cream I'm putting on my face is concealer. It helps everything go on better and prevents my creams from oxidization. I forgot to prime once when I had to be at work really early and by the end of the day i looked greasier than usual and my makeup was a good 4 shades darker and more orange than the rest of me... it was a horrible lesson to have to learn. Never again will I skip this step and look like an abnormally tall oompa loompa.

As an oilier gal setting my makeup with powder is just as important as priming if I want my makeup to not melt off of my face half way through the day. I also do this in order to allow any powdered blushes and bronzers to go on more smoothly and not look patchy overtop of my foundation.

I'm not a huge blush fan but I love a good light neutral blush. I never go a day without just that subtle pop of color. On days when I'm only wearing minimal makeup ill skip the bronzer and just add a pop of blush on my cheeks just to add some color and radiance to my complexion.

I've got some pretty naturally bushy brows so at the very least my brows are at least going to get slicked back with some gel in order to keep them looking manageable and pristine throughout the day. God knows they have a mind of their own and can't be trusted to sit right all day without it.

Personally, I don't know about you but, I feel like any amount of makeup just looks a little off without a little bit of mascara. It opens up the eyes and just allows you to look a little bit more awake. Without it I feel like I look exhausted. If I wasn't going to do anything else I would at the very very least slide on some mascara.

Last but not least no makeup look is ever complete without a little bit of lip color. Whether it be a stain, a gloss, a tinted balm, or full on lipstick no makeup look is complete without a little something on the lips. As a true lipstick addict it's pretty clear I can't go a day without popping something on my lips.

I may have a lot of unskippable steps but, if I'm gonna go for it I might as well cover all of my basis.
