Lime Crime Velvetine in Utopia | Review

Utopia was the first velvetine introduced after the Clueless Witch Velvetine Collection. Personally, I think that this seems to be a color that hasn't recently gotten all of the recognition that it deserves. Utopia is a gorgeous vibrant orchid that can't be described any other way besides fun and feminine. It's an easy pop of color for anyone to wear but, I think it is particularly stunning on darker and more olive complexions. It is also an easy color to pair with both simple and bold makeup looks.

In formulation Utopia is very similar to Pansy. This is because it has all of the classic characteristics of a velvetine; it's lightweight, long-wearing, and matte but, it has that same thinner watery consistency. Similarly Utopia is a little streaky upon the first application and must be built up to be opaque. The one thing about the formulation that makes it stand apart is that it feels a little more sticky, making it a little less transfer proof than the other velvetines. It isn't sticky to the point of discomfort and it can be fixed by blotting a little translucent powder over the lips to make it more matte. This color also leaves a slight pink fruit punch colored stain behind after removal but it's mild. If you wanted to add a little gloss over the stain you could and it would make your post lip color lipstick look a little more intentional and put together.

Utopia is definitely one of the more "normal" colors by Lime Crime but that doesn't make it any less unique or gorgeous than any other part of the line. The color is effortlessly flirty without being over the top. I can't look at Utopia without thinking of pina coladas and exciting outings with friends because it is just one of those colors that instantly brightens your day and makes you want to smile.
